Given that the weather has been so dry and not too cold, I took the chance – or rather I was made to – paint the south gable end of the hostel, as that takes the majority of the weather due to the direction it faces. For reasons that I can’t explain, I always paint from the ground up, rather than from the top down.

We have to paint the entire outside of the hostel every couple of years, just to maintain its weatherproofing. Usually it’s a winter job, which never strikes as being the ‘normal’ time to do it, but it is the only time we have available and this year, Autumn was so wet, that we couldn’t do it before Christmas and February can be a ‘settled’ period up on the west coast.

We still have availability for the hostel, particularly for July and the beginning of August.
