Check-in Details

Please find below the check-in details for the hostel and other useful information. The check-in board that will have your room number, yurt name or camping pitch on it, is on the hallway table by the door to the living room. Depending on your arrival time, we might not be around, but please help yourself to the facilities in the hostel and any issues, please feel free to contact me on the mobile number below.

Ulva Hostel Guest Check-in Information

– Check-in time is between 2pm to 5pm (Please note the last ferry to Ulva is at 5.30pm – NB: You are welcome to turn up to the hostel earlier than 2pm, but cleaning will be taking place and therefore rooms and Yurts are not available until after that time.)

– Check-out time on the day of your departure is by 10am.

The Ulva ferry runs on request from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and on Sundays from June until the end of August. If you let us know nearer your arrival date, your likely time of arrival, then we will endeavour to be around to meet and greet you. However, if you are coming across on the last ferry or coming back from a boat trip after 5.30pm, we will usually leave instructions for you in the hostel and catch up with you the next day as we live on Gometra and therefore come down to the hostel each day.

The Hostel is exactly one mile from the slipway on Ulva and takes around 20-25 minutes to walk along a rough track. Simply follow the signs from ‘Hostel & Yurts’ from just past the Boathouse and Sheila’s Cottage.

Kit transport to the hostel is available to the hostel for £20, but large groups wanting kit transport should contact us for a separate price.

Bed linen is provided.

Please bring towels with you, but towel hire is available for £2 for a small towel and £5 for a large towel.

The hostel has a well equipped kitchen to cook in, a sauna, hot showers, a large living room area and dining room.

If coming by car, we suggest that you ignore the first large car park on the Ulva Ferry road and carry on down towards the pier. Just before the garage buildings, turn up a short ramp on your left hand side. This is the car park for guests and visitors to Ulva. If that car park is full, feel free to retrace your steps back to the first large car park and use that for your stay.  Ignore the ‘No Overnight Parking’ signs as they are not directed at visitors to Ulva.

The Ulva Community Transport runs a scheduled service between the ferry port at Craignure and Ulva Ferry during the season, but booking is essential. They can be contacted through their website at https://ufct.co.uk/

There are no shops on Ulva and therefore do bring what you need with you. However, we do operate a small honesty food shop at the hostel with a small selection of items that might be useful during your stay.

Turus Mara operates boat trips from the Ulva Ferry side of the sound to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles and can be booked through their website https://www.turusmara.com/. If you do intend to go out on one of these trips and you need a separate crossing from or to Ulva outside of normal ferry operating hours, do let us know.

If you have any issues or questions, or if you have problems getting to us on the day due to ferry issues, please do not hesitate to contact me on 07538 969 697.
